CAREER OPPORTUNITY
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Our client, a major Energy Planning and Operations Organizations, is responsible for ensuring reliable systems through integrated system planning and system and market operations. The organization operates with professional independence, transparency, and stakeholder accountability, in line with international best practices for energy system and operation companies.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will lead the organization from its early formation stage through institutional development, operational readiness, and strategic maturity. The individual will provide visionary leadership to ensure that the organization is established as a trusted, efficient, and technically competent institution in Pakistan's energy sector. The CEO will guide the organization's regulatory compliance, stakeholder relations, technology strategy, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute strategic business plans to meet the goals and objectives set out by the Board of Directors (BoD). Align organizational goals with national policies for the sector.
- Lead the development of the wholesale electricity market framework, system operations reforms and optimal, integrated power system planning. Establish systems and controls to effectively manage real-time system operations, scheduling, dispatch and settlement. Ensure grid reliability, and lead the grid's digital transformation. Oversee the secure and efficient operation of the national electricity transmission system.
- Build a collaborative working relationships with Ministry of Energy (Power Division), the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), transmission and distribution licensees, market participants, development partners, and government agencies. Ensure full compliance with the statutory and regulatory framework established by NEPRA and the Government of Pakistan.
- Oversee Financial & Organizational Management, develop budgets and secure financial sustainability.
- Communicate effectively with public and private stakeholders and represent the company nationally and internationally in energy-sector forums.
Qualification and Experience:
- Must have (minimum) a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Energy Systems, Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting (or be a member of a recognized body of professional accountants), Law or a related field from a reputed, HEC recognized national or international institution.
- At least 20 years of experience in the Power or Energy sector, including 5+ years in senior executive leadership roles (as the CEO or reporting directly to the CEO).
- Strong understanding of regulatory, legal, and economic frameworks governing the energy sector.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and strategic leadership skills.
Preference would be given to individuals, who have:
- Demonstrated expertise in power system operation, electricity markets, power system planning or transmission system management.
- Proven ability to lead large technical and policy-driven organizations through reform or institutional evolution.
- Experience working with or establishing independent system or market operators (e.g., ISO, RTO, SO, or Independent Market Operator models).
- Familiarity with international standards such as ENTS-E, NERC, or similar reliability frameworks.
This role demands strong management and leadership skills and a strategic mindset to oversee business process improvements, change and risk management, and governance enhancement, while ensuring alignment with organizational goals and industry best practices and smooth coordination with stakeholders.
The appointment will be made on an initial three year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and in accordance with applicable statutory requirements.
