Cadet College Chilas was established as a part of the Diamer Bahasha Dam Project (DBDP), which was an initiative by the Pakistani government to build a hydroelectric power plant in the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan. The decision to establish the college was made by former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Shaukat Aziz, during his visit to the DBD site on February 23, 2006. The project was undertaken jointly by the DBDP and the Education Department of Gilgit-Baltistan.
However, due to technical issues and the non-availability of required land in Chilas, the establishment of the college was delayed until 2013. In 2013, the college was finally established after 125 acres of land were acquired in Darandas, Goherabad, which is located about 45 km from Chilas. To start the journey of a new beacon of light in Diamer, it was decided that classes for cadets of Cadet College Chilas would be held in a government school until the construction of a new campus was completed.
On December 16, 2013, classes for the pioneer entry of 57 cadets were started in the building of Public School Chilas. The founding principal of the college was Brig Ejaz Ahmad Najaf, Sitara-e-Imtiaz (M). The college color was decided to be maroon, and the motto was set as “READ TO LEAD”. The demonym was chosen as "Diamerians" after the name of the district where the college is established.
Since then, two entries have successfully passed out from the college, with 10 cadets studying in medical colleges, 10 cadets in engineering colleges, and 1 cadet undergoing training at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA). At present, two classes are receiving education at the college.
The construction of the new campus is now 90% complete, with the remaining 10% scheduled to be completed by December 2021. It is expected that the college will be shifted to the new campus at the start of 2022. The new campus covers an area of 125 acres and features state-of-the-art buildings, including an academic and administrative block, a triple-storied mess, auditorium, and exam hall block, three spacious hostels, a hospital, a mosque, and staff residences, along with many playgrounds.
Cadet College Chilas is expected to bring an educational revolution in the area, and will prove to be a source of enlightenment, peace, prosperity, patriotism, and brotherhood for the people of Diamer, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Pakistan as a whole. Insha Allah.
